Meet Amy Miller and Karen Bowling! Both are Hall County natives and pharmacists with a combined experience of 66 years. Friends since 2002 and business partners since 2008, they use their experience and love of community to serve the Lula community as co-owners of Lula Pharmacy.
We recently had the opportunity to sit down with Amy and Karen and ask some questions about their life and love of Hall County.
Question: What inspired you to own your own pharmacy in Lula?
Answer: Karen says, “We wanted the freedom to practice the way we felt like it ought to be practiced and have a business we could control.”
Q: What would customers say they like about your pharmacy?
A: Amy laughs and says, “Other than our ice cream?! I think they like the fact that they come in and we listen. We take the time.” Karen adds “They see a familiar face.”
Q: What is your favorite thing about Hall County?
A: Karen answered, “It’s a beautiful place to live, it’s so scenic. Gainesville has turned into a big enough town that there is plenty to do. Lula is a small town and you get to know people.” Amy adds, “There are generations here and a sense of community.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you have met in Hall County?
A: Amy says, “The people who come in most are little kids and retired people. For example, one of our customers is a retired Navy Seal. There is just so much life experience in this community.” Karen adds, “ You may think they’ve never left, but then you find out they have been all over the world. You start to peel back the layers.”
Q: What is your favorite movie?
A: Karen’s favorite is “Shawshank Redemption” and Amy loves “The Big Chill” and “Casablanca.”
Q: What is your favorite band?
A:  Amy loves the Eagles and recently got to see them in concert. Karen loves the Beatles.
Q: What former business makes you the most nostalgic about Hall County?
A: Amy says “Sauls.” Karen says, “The Cake Box or the little candy store that was on Bradford Street. They had the best chocolate covered peanuts.”
Q: What does the word “HOME” mean to you?
A: “Family. It’s ‘that’ feeling. I have a large extended family. I’m an only child, but I have a lot of cousins,” says Amy.
