Interview by Traci Timmons, Abernathy Cochran Real Estate Group intern
Meet Chelsea Keller! Chelsea is this year’s student section leader at Flowery Branch High School. The student section, also known as “The Darkside,” is proud to be named one of the best student sections in the state. As “The Darkside” leader, Chelsea is responsible for leading chants and bringing energy to the crowd.
Chelsea is originally from Port Charlotte, Fla. but has lived in Hall County for 13 years with her mother, Rosie, and sister, Jennifer. After graduation, she plans to attend Georgia State and major in journalism.
We want to thank Chelsea for spending time with us recently and telling us more about her life and love of Hall County.
Question: What inspired you to become The Darkside leader?
Answer: “My sister was The Darkside leader in 2015 when she graduated, but my main inspiration was because I didn’t think the leaders last year did us justice, so I wanted to be able to take control and do things my way to improve it.”
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in Hall County? Who would you like to see nominated as a Face of Hall County?
A: “Probably Mrs. Carroll. She’s the art teacher at Davis Middle School, and she was my Odyssey of the Mind coach for five years. She’s a bit crazy and doesn’t care what anyone says which makes her fun.”
Q: If you could travel anywhere in the world right now, where would it be? And why?
A: “Definitely Spain because Spanish boys are cuter, and I just think Spain would be really beautiful.”
Q: What advice would you give a crowd of people?
A: “Always be yourself because at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what anyone thinks of you as long as you like yourself for who you are.”
Q: What is something on your bucket list?
A: “I want to crowd surf. It’s something that I’ve always really wanted to do.”
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about Hall County?
A: “I like how everyone knows each other. I think we’re a pretty close-knit community. Most people here at Flowery Branch aren’t just friends with other students here. We’re all friends with other people who go to different schools in Hall County, and I think that’s cool.”
Q: Where do you see yourself in five or 10 years?
A: “In five years, I’ll be in my senior year of college. I want to be out of state and living on my own. In 10 years, I want to be settled in my career, and I want it to be a career that I absolutely love and enjoy going to every day.”
Q: If you were cast into a major motion picture and had your choice of anyone to be your co-star, who would you choose?
A: “Probably Zendaya. I would want to be in a movie where Zendaya is my best friend.”
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
A: “I’m a pretty open book, but I get nervous sometimes especially before games and before speaking during class meetings. At our first game, I was shaking when I was standing in front of everyone, but after awhile, I realized it’s okay. Everyone has respect for people, and no one is there to make fun of you.”
Q: What three words or phrases that come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
A: “Comfort, family, and freedom.”
